How to Recover from the Weight of Collective Stress

Information pours into our psyches daily from the internet, social media, family, friends, books and other media. There is a lot to take in, especially now. So much of it is based in fear – by that I mean everything that isn’t capital L type Love info with vibes of happiness, hope, compassion, love, truth, service and authenticity.

Fear-based information or thoughts brings stress, worry, concerns, feelings of being scared or angry, depression, victim mentality, hopelessness, fatigue, addiction, procrastination, inactivity and, over time, illness. Couple this with our own day to day thoughts and concerns and it’s easy to see how we can feel confused and/or overwhelmed with life.

 Because we are energy beings we are always affected by energies , whether we are sensitive or not.

Sensitive empathic types are more prone to feeling the weight of collective stress. Regardless of whether you’re aware of this or not I suggest you practice cleaning up your energy field often and being mindful of what you allow into your psyche.

Here’s what I find helpful:

Cleaning Up your Vibration

  • Get grounded. Breathe to your body, coming away from your busy mind. Feel your feet as they walk. Touch the earth. Connect with the natural world.
  • Come back to present time – with what is right in front of you. Concentrate, focus and be right here, right now.
  • Boost your immune system in times of excess collective stress in your favourite ways (I like vitamin c, b, tonics, clean food and water) Take calming magnesium – it’s a game changer for feeling better.
  • Let water cleanse you – imagine that which isn’t yours washing away in the shower or the rain. You can even imagine water or a colour cleansing your field. Where your thoughts go is where your energy goes – think yourself clean.
  • Use Palo Santo to clean your field. This sacred Amazonian wood clears negative energy, and it feels and smells lovely too.
  • Bathe yourself in sunshine, imagine it lightening up dense energy. This life-giving energy is a magical healer.
  • Keep powerful crystals close – their vibration will enhance your own.
  • Disconnect energetic ties with particularly heavy people, ideas or situations. Lovingly cut the ties and imagine that energy leaving your system.
  • Connect with your team in Spirit for healing and guidance.
  • Breathe – any yogic breath practice is powerful and cleansing.
  • Meditate – clear your mind and rest in the essence of your authentic self.
  • Be mindful of what you consume mentally, physically and psychically.
  • Affirm you are safe and loved.
  • Observe your thinking, choose higher thoughts when you can.
  • Turn off media at least an hour before bed.
  • Journal out any angst.
  • Take more time out for rest and sleep – it makes sense we would need more of this when collective stress is high.


These times mean we need to be extra mindful of self-care.

Be kind and compassionate with your precious self. It’s not a time for pushing and striving. Gently does it.

Overwhelm

​Felt overwhelmed lately? I have. Sometimes there is just a lot going on that we need to carefully, or anxiously, navigate. Throw into the mix being a parent and life can get a whole lot busier. It doesn't happen so much these days for me because many years of doing busy, overwhelm and burnout got tiring. Mindfulness feels better.
 
Doing a lot from a place of anxiety brings stress for all concerned. When I am in that space I can blame, complain, tire others by waffling on about my stuff and generally freak out those close to me. Self awareness means we can calmly and carefully work busy. It takes presence to do this. We need to come back to our bodies, ground and check in with what we are needing. From that place we are able to drop some jobs, slow down with others, say no and be kind to ourselves.
 
As women in particular, we're good at taking on lots, we can juggle and multi task and keep on doing the stuff. If we are not practising self awareness we will move into overwhelm. This feeling can manifest physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually, it can affect our whole being. It can look like anxiety, crying, anger, racing heart beat, tense body, fear, guilt, panic, rushing, loneliness, not enough and on it goes. At it's best it is a great indicator that things need to change.
 
Taking on too much is a classic of mine. I have bursts of creativity, busy myself putting it all out there, realise there's somewhat more work to do than I anticipated, do the work, stress with dead lines, freak out those close to me with my anxious energy, lose my sense of being connected to my body and experience overwhelm. Self care becomes another job on my to do list.
 
Here's some questions to ask yourself when you're feeling overwhelmed.
 
Have I exercised today?
Am I present in my body?
Am I drinking enough water?
Am I breathing deeply?
Do I need to consciously relax my body?
Do I need to empty my head? Make a list. Journal the whole overwhelm vibe in words to download.
Have I taken on too many tasks? Do I need to say no or drop some things?
Am I more worried about what others think than about what I need?
Am I taking care of myself?
 
Wishing you mindfulness when there's lots going on.
