Settling down into lockdown has been quite a process. In New Zealand we are close to 2 weeks in. It’s taken that long for me to finally slow down. The early drama of it all had me watching mainstream news with a glass of anxiety-settling wine, talking covid19 semi-fulltime, juggling space so our family could all do online calls at once, cooking amazing meals (who else has had their grocery bill sky-rocket?!), cleaning random things, navigating Zoom group events as well as my one on one client sessions, baking and excessive social media. I extended my yoga practise and started walking around my block every morning. Phew. After a week of that I was exhausted!
Finding ourselves in an unusual new normal takes some adjustment. I’m reminded of a meme I related to about it being ok to not be productive during a global pandemic. What does it take for us to slow down and be present? If we can’t do it at this time we certainly will struggle in ‘normal’ (?) life post lockdown.
When we slow right down and ignore the ego-should-voice we are taking our power back from habitual belief patterns and fears that keep us away from our true nature. Keeping busy and productive can come from an aligned place if you have the energy, passion and intuitive-calling. To know if you do you must check in with your body, emotions, thoughts and maybe even your spirit, and that requires presence. Our habits can rule us if we are not self-aware.
We have been given a great opportunity to create a new routine that aligns with our personal needs in current time. I’m still cooking, but it’s only when I’m creatively compelled – my family all got their own dinner last night which was a relief. Binge cleaning has stopped. Extra yoga is staying. I’ve spaced my work out to accommodate the loud calling for rest I was hearing. Walking every morning is staying too. I am not picking up my phone all.the.time anymore. My new normal now includes daily self-kindness check-ins, more alone time and dancing.
What needs adjustment in your lockdown life for your physical body to feel happier? Is it movement or stillness?
Ideas: walking, dancing, yoga, rest, naps, being curled up with blankets, self-massage, baths, vitamins, less alcohol, lying on the earth, deep breathing, bouncing, body-honouring sex, more water, less food, different food.
What does your emotional self need?
Ideas: Hugs (self-hugs too!), video calls with friends or family, breathing, journaling how you feel, being heard (who can hold space to listen to you?) being outside with the trees and flowers, connecting with your animals, to just let feelings flow, essential oils.
What does your mental self need?
Ideas: Less social media, less research/more research, more fiction/more non-fiction, meditation (rest those thoughts!) journaling to unload all that stuff out of your head, lists/less lists, games, intelligent movies/shows or calming/easy tv, new projects/no projects, people on the same wave-length as you to talk to, boundaries with those who are not.
What does your spiritual self need?
Ideas: Nature, spiritual retreat time, cards, candles, prayer, meditation, channeling, journaling, time alone.

I recently returned home from a week away teaching past life regression in the North Island. It was a full week of travelling, teaching and planning. There were also three different beds, which is a thing as I feel the vibes of others and I can find that distracting. Pre trip was busy prepping (and attempting a non stress packing experience.)
I find it energising and inspiring to be in a big city. Living in a small town that is tucked into the top corner of the South Island of New Zealand, I often feel the urge to get out into the world. I have an interesting relationship with travel. I crave it, stress about it, delight in it, get annoyed with it and know there is a lot more of it coming for me. Once upon a time I was a flight attendant for 9 years, so it also feels strangely comfortable, although I don't enjoy flying anymore.
I have decided travel needs re-entry integration time. I arrived home and got back to work. It's a busy time in my solo entrepreneurial world - I'm getting my first book ready for publication as well as changing the way I work, I am keen to complete a long list of to dos.
During my morning yoga and spiritual practice I have been reminded by my inspiring yoga teacher to check in with myself to see how I'm doing physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually so as to know (or be guided) to what yoga or movement I'm needing. I find it helpful to remember and sense these layers of my being, I encourage you to try it.
All you need to do is sit quietly, close your eyes and become aware of your body. How is it feeling? What do you sense it needs? Now be aware of your emotion/feeling self. What feelings are there? Be with your mental body now, how is the quality of your thinking? Then take your awareness to your spiritual self. Can you sense that higher, more refined part of you? What does your spirit need?
I've discovered I need some pause, reflection, integration and down time. It is so easy for us to run with what the mind thinks is the most important thing to do or think. Our body, emotions and spirit have intelligence too that is easy to miss. When I prioritise an inner check in I can connect with this wisdom.
So, mind, I will give you a time limit for thinky, worky kind of stuff and then you can enjoy a book in the hammock. Body, you can deeply relax and emotions you can feel all you want because my mind wont be in charge. I feel happiness rising already!
wishing you connection to all of yourself
As a past life regressionist it’s becoming apparent to me how grand the scale is of wasting time and energy by not listening to our inner knowing.
I am seeing people who incarnate over and over and over doing the very same life theme because they are not listening to the inner voice that would take them on a path of healing and growth.
What a lot of energy it takes to reincarnate over six lifetimes to learn that speaking your truth will not harm you anymore; it will in fact free you!
It makes sense that if you were hung in a past life for expressing your truth you would be cautious this time around. (That behaviour is most often unconscious of course)
Yet after many experiences of knowing that that will not happen to you now isn’t it time to be brave and let go of that fear that stops you fulfilling your life purpose?
We have a plan when we incarnate, we know what it is we are needing to work on, what lessons we are attempting to accomplish. We also have talents and strengths to express that will support ourselves, our families, communities and the planet.
When we are in alignment with our inner knowing we become connected to our passions and our truth.
So what stops us from doing this? I see three reasons -
What’s the conditioning all about? This is beliefs we have taken on board at some point in the past. Inner tapes we operate from today.
Maybe we were told we have to achieve to be noticed, to be worthy. This stops us from being here and now, it keeps us constantly focussed on the future. When we are not here and now we cannot be in touch with our heart or our body. The heart and the body both have a voice that wants to be heard. Voices that are important.
The bodies voice gets loud – pain. ‘Please hear me, I need you to notice me, there is something wrong, we need to talk!’
Yet what do we do? Take pain relief and keep on going.
The heart too waits to be heard. What is it that the heart needs to say. “Be with me, I can show you how to be happy!”
The conditioning can come in many packages. ‘Don’t open your heart to truly love because you will end up in pain.’ This may have come about by watching your parents divorce or watching a loved one die in this life or another.
The fear of the unknown is such a common issue. We get scared when we don’t know what will happen. Maybe your inner guidance is saying “Leave this marriage” or “Quit that career and start studying”.
When we are fearful of the painful feelings and uncertainty about our financial future we usually prefer to stay safe, to leave things as they are which brings certainty – even the uncomfortable certainty seems better than the unknown.
So how do we work with this fear? Trust is the answer, Big Trust. Faith in a Divine Plan. Working your intellectual understanding of a loving universal force that will support you. Putting this into practise. Diving in to honour your inner knowing.
After a few successes you will see you actually can trust, and then you will KNOW trust.
An inability to stay present is also part of our conditioning and is connected to fear as well.
If we were to be here and now that may challenge our belief of “I am nothing if I am not doing” or “being creative isn’t beneficial, it's time wasting”.
Sometimes when we are present we notice big uncomfortable feelings. We are scared to feel these as they can seem like they may overwhelm us and we may never recover. Our habit is to be with the thoughts, the worry, go shopping, watch TV, hop on Facebook or eat more. You know how addictions work, they take us away from the pain that we are unwilling to hear and feel.
A place of being present is what is required to listen to our inner knowing. Yet it is not a familiar place to be.
We seem to like to give our power away to others to tell us what we need to do. We do this with friends, family, professionals like doctors and counsellors, “psychics” and healers of all kinds. Surely these wise people know what we must do. They are wise, I am not is what I hear. True wise people will assist you to hear your inner knowing.
You are the only one that knows your life path - your plan and what you need to do.
Your inner knowing is loud when you slow down and be present to hear it.
We don’t need an angel to appear in the room telling us advice. Our gut feelings, our hunches, our intuitions and inner knowings are right there when we stop thinking so much and slow down to hear, feel and just know what is right.
